2016 Wedding Trends
In 2016, new wedding trends are emerging that couples never dreamed of considering in the past. As weddings become more personalized and often are less formal affairs than they were in the past, couples have a lot of creative license when it comes to which trends they want to follow.
Worldly couples that have romantic memories of a specific location are starting to incorporate some kind of item into their wedding day that represents it. For example, couples who have special memories of a visit to Paris may choose to have Eiffel tower replicas as part of their décor. Couples who spent time in Italy might choose to have Italian wine, dishes and even music at their reception.
Brides are adding a little something extra to their wedding dresses by incorporating feathers into their outfit. Wedding dresses are now being designed that feature ball gown skirts covered in white feathers. The addition of feathers to white wedding dresses makes them more versatile because the dress can be repurposed for future events.
Another 2016 wedding trend is shying away from all white dresses and choosing a dress with some type of pattern. Many 2016 wedding wear fashion shows have introduced brides to the idea of floral print dresses. These are perfect for casual weddings and great for brides who want to incorporate a floral or other pattern into their big day in as many ways as possible.
Gone are the days when wedding cakes were simply white cakes with flowers or lace. Couples getting married in 2016 are choosing to tell their love story using their wedding cake. Quotes can be added to a wedding cake or the cake itself can represent an interest or passion a couple shares. One big trend in wedding cakes for 2016 are themed cakes such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Dr. Who. Another trend is to forgo the wedding cake and instead serve pies or other desserts.
An increasing number of couples are opting for a wedding weekend as opposed to a wedding day. This is an especially popular choice among couples who have many guests coming in from out of town for their wedding. Turning the event into an entire weekend often gives far away friends and relatives more motivation to attend a couple’s wedding.
Speaking of guests, 2016 will likely see much smaller weddings in terms of the number of people invited. With the rising cost of wedding planning, many couples are narrowing down their guest list so that only the people they want the most will be there. This allows today’s weddings to be more intimate affairs than they have been in the past. Smaller guest lists are ideal for destination weddings and casual backyard weddings, both of which are increasingly in popularity with each passing year.
These are just a few of the emerging wedding trends for 2016 and beyond. Couples have more freedom to do what they want now than previous generations ever did.
